Corporate Director of Community Engagement and Wellbeing
Director of Public Health
Thank you for your interest in one of our exciting opportunities.
If we have learnt anything from the last few years, it’s that we can’t predict the future, but we can ensure that we are a modern, outward-facing council that listens to our residents, partners and stakeholders and designs our services with them and for them.
Islington is a place of contrasts – where a media stereotype of affluence doesn’t ring true for the thousands of residents who are at risk of being left behind: facing poverty, health disparities and a lack of access to good jobs, housing and opportunity.
That’s why we’ve set ourselves a mission to create a more equal Islington by 2030 where everyone in our fantastic, diverse borough is able to thrive. Our plan, Islington Together 2030, has been directly based on the feedback of thousands of our residents and their lived experience, but now we need to turn it into action.
We have much to be proud of – a fantastic record of building new genuinely affordable homes, the transformation of our streets to improve air quality and fight the climate crisis, and radical improvements in the educational outcomes of our young people. But we know that to really tackle the ingrained challenges of poverty, affordability, quality of life and discrimination our residents face, we now need to be bolder and more innovative than ever before.
And that’s where these roles come in – we can’t deliver transformational change in the life chances of our residents, and in how we deliver our services to them, without an excellent top team and a focus on challenging the status quo.
As our Director of Public Health you will be the driving force for better health and wellbeing in our borough, helping us to target health inequalities with a relentless improvement drive.
If you are passionate about tackling inequality, fast-paced change and putting community power at the heart of service design, then it’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining Islington.
We’re looking for candidates who enjoy coproduction and collaboration and are as comfortable working with residents and partners as well as officers and councillors. Most of all, we want leaders who will bring professional excellence and inspire their teams to innovate and perform.
We look forward to hearing from you.
